Wife of Jailed NUP Deputy Spokesperson Mufumbiro Losses Battle to Cancer

Edith Katende Mufumbiro, the wife of National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, has died after battling cancer.

The news was announced by NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, who said Edith passed away in the early hours of the morning.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our dear sister and comrade, Edith Katende Mufumbiro,” Kyagulanyi said in a statement.

According to the statement, Edith died shortly after 3:00am following what was described as a prolonged illness.

Her death comes at a time when her husband, Waiswa Mufumbiro, remains on remand at Luzira Upper Prison, where he is facing charges related to alleged unlawful activities.

Kyagulanyi criticized the continued detention of Mufumbiro, stating that he had previously sought bail to care for his ailing wife, but his requests were not granted.

The NUP leader also claimed that Mufumbiro was not present at the party headquarters on the day the alleged offence occurred, saying he was at Mulago Cancer Institute attending to his wife.

Authorities have not publicly responded to these claims.

The passing of Edith has drawn sympathy from members of the opposition and the public, with calls for support to the bereaved family during this difficult time.
